Don’t stop creating
Warren became unemployed after working at a popular media channel. He took this as an opportunity to start creating his own content. He worked long hours doing what he does best, believing that maybe one day it will turn into something.
Losing your primary source of income is hard, but don’t let this stop you from doing the things you’re passionate about and sharing it with the world. People are watching you and you don’t know what opportunities might come from it. This brings me on to my next point.
Not every opportunity is right for you
Warren received a lot of phone calls from companies that wanted to make use of his talent as a content creator. He was excited to finally get noticed for his work. However, for some bizarre reason, each one fell through the net. Sometimes companies do this strange thing of getting your hopes up and then letting you down.
Not every opportunity is meant for you. Soon after this ordeal Warren was contacted by the NBA. Perhaps if he had taken those jobs he wouldn’t have been able to do what he does now! Examine every opportunity and work out whether it’s right for you or not, even if it seems like a God-send.
Warren didn’t even study anything to do with what he does now. He’s had to apply himself and learn new skills to be able to do his job well. His advice to any aspiring videographers and film makers is to go on a relevant training course. If it’s not something you can afford, find a mentor and shadow somebody for a while. Don’t underestimate how far your network can take you. You’re responsible for your personal development.
Self-care is important
Being the content manager for the NBA is intense! According to Warren, it’s so fast paced that he doesn’t even have the time to get jet-lagged. It’s really easy to get absorbed in your work and forget to take care of yourself! He had to learn to disconnect himself from work for the sake of his marriage.
However you choose to spend your time, don’t forget to take care of yourself. No job is worth falling ill or falling out with loved ones over, so leave work where it belongs as much as you can.
